The NLFL held its Occupational Health and Safety Conference (OHS) in Gander June 10-13, 2010 which was attended by over 100 trade union activists and guests. The conference focused on the province’s new OHS regulations and occupational disease. Guests included well-known labour lawyer Randell Earle, QC, who spoke on his work representing the concerns of offshore workers at the Wells Inquiry as well as Dr. Gary Namie of the Workplace Bullying Institute. Other speakers included union, academic and government experts in occupational, health and safety and OHS laws. In addition, part of the conference was dedicated to the very serious issue of occupational disease, and included an address by Jean Dussault of the Quebec Federation of Labour and the Quebec Occupational Health and Safety Research Institute.
