IOC’s Response to Striking Workers, Reinforces the Need for Progressive Labour Legislation in Newfoundland & Labrador

The impasse in collective bargaining between the United Steelworkers Local 5795 and the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), now into its sixth week, further highlights the need for better labour laws in our province, according to the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour (NLFL). NLFL President, Mary Shortall, is concerned about IOC’s response; and the ability of current labour legislation to protect the rights of all workers, especially when they are dealing with wealthy, multi-national corporations, whose profits for the most part leave the province.  Read the full release here.
